The first seven days

  • Day 1Open your fridge and pantry tonight and write down three meals you could make from what is already there.
  • Day 2Buy one bag of rice, one box of pasta and one can of beans so a simple meal is always within reach.
  • Day 3Cook a pot of rice tonight and keep half in the fridge for an easy meal tomorrow.
  • Day 4Scramble two eggs low and slow in a little butter, pull them off the heat while still soft, and eat them on toast.
  • Day 5Write a grocery list of just five things you would be glad to find in your kitchen this week.
  • Day 6Stock your freezer with one bag of frozen vegetables you actually like, peas, corn or green beans.
  • Day 7Toast a slice of bread and top it with peanut butter and sliced banana for a breakfast that takes two minutes.

Further into the year

The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:

  • Day 30Taste a dish before you serve it tonight and ask yourself whether it needs a pinch more salt.
  • Day 60Tear up a few herbs, basil, parsley or cilantro, and scatter them over dinner to make it taste fresher.
  • Day 120Pack a picnic with sandwiches, fruit and a cold drink and eat it in a park or a quiet spot outdoors.
  • Day 240Wash your cutting board and knife with hot soapy water right after you cut raw meat.
  • Day 365Celebrate the end of a long day by cooking your favorite comfort meal and eating it slowly at the table.

How a challenge works

A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.

Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
