Living Less Rushed
For anyone who hurries through everything, even when there is no real deadline. Each day is one small way to build in a little extra time, slow one ordinary activity down, and notice that most things go fine at an easier pace.
Mindfulness · Stress · Mindfulness · one to-do a day · you choose how many days
The first seven days
- Day 1Leave the house ten minutes earlier than you need to today, and notice how the trip feels with time to spare.
- Day 2The next time you catch yourself hurrying, pause and ask: is there a real deadline here, or does it only feel that way?
- Day 3Walk from your front door to the end of the block a little slower than usual, on purpose.
- Day 4Pick one chore, like folding laundry, and do it at half your normal speed.
- Day 5Let one person go ahead of you in line today, and notice that the wait is barely longer.
- Day 6At the store, choose the checkout lane with a few more people in it and simply stand there.
- Day 7Read one page of a book slowly enough that you could tell someone what it said.
Further into the year
The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:
- Day 30Tie your shoes slowly this morning and feel the laces in your fingers.
- Day 60Choose one doorway today and pause in it for a breath before you walk through.
- Day 120On a cold morning, give the car or yourself a few extra minutes to warm up before setting off.
- Day 240Pick a slower-paced hobby for twenty minutes today, like knitting, whittling or gardening.
- Day 365Close the day by sitting quietly for two minutes, noticing that most things went fine at an easier pace.
How a challenge works
A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.
Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
