Easing Holiday Stress
For anyone who loves the holidays and still finds them exhausting, or dreads them outright. Each day is one small way to plan, pace, and protect your energy through gatherings, travel, spending and family expectations, so the season has more room for what matters to you.
Stress · Stress · Family · Boundaries · one to-do a day · you choose how many days
The first seven days
- Day 1Write down the three moments of the coming holiday that matter most to you, and circle the one you would protect first.
- Day 2List every tradition your household keeps for the next big celebration, then mark one you could skip this year.
- Day 3Ask each person in your home which single holiday activity they would miss most if it vanished.
- Day 4Pick a total amount for this season's gifts and write it somewhere you will see it.
- Day 5Choose a per-person gift limit and share it with one relative who exchanges gifts with you.
- Day 6Suggest a name draw or gift swap to your family instead of everyone buying for everyone.
- Day 7Practice one kind way to decline an invitation out loud: "Thank you so much for thinking of me, I can't make it this time."
Further into the year
The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:
- Day 30Choose a go-to phrase for changing the subject, such as "Let's talk about something happier, how is the new job?"
- Day 60Write down one thing you appreciate about the season, then stop at one, with no pressure to feel more.
- Day 120Splash cool water on your face in the bathroom if a family event gets to be too much.
- Day 240Notice the urge to explain too much when declining, and send the short version instead.
- Day 365Pick a date for a calm, small celebration in the quiet months, just because.
How a challenge works
A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.
Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
