The first seven days

  • Day 1Open your bank app or website and look at one balance for ten seconds. Then close it. That is the whole task.
  • Day 2Write down the feeling that showed up when you thought about checking your money today, in one word.
  • Day 3Look at the last three transactions on your main account and say each one out loud, without judging any of them.
  • Day 4Find the due date of one bill and write it on a calendar you actually look at.
  • Day 5Pick one subscription you pay for and decide, calmly, whether you still use it. No need to cancel yet.
  • Day 6Put your unopened mail in one pile and open just the top envelope.
  • Day 7Move one dollar, or whatever small amount feels easy, into savings and notice that it was possible.

Further into the year

The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:

  • Day 30Delete one shopping app from your phone, or move it off the home screen, and see whether you miss it.
  • Day 60Look at your last statement and circle the purchases that made you glad. Notice they exist.
  • Day 120Choose an amount, however small, to give away this month and give the first part of it today.
  • Day 240Look at your spending on one hobby and decide whether it brings enough joy for its cost. Keep it if it does.
  • Day 365Rest tonight knowing that you have looked, you have learned, and money can wait for tomorrow's small step.

How a challenge works

A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.

Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
