Taming the Paperwork Pile
For anyone whose mail, forms, bills and important papers have turned into a pile they avoid. Each day is one small, doable step toward knowing where things are, keeping up with what comes in and feeling calmer about it.

The first seven days
- Day 1Stand near your paper pile for one minute and simply look at it, letting yourself notice it without any harsh words.
- Day 2Pick one spot near your front door where every new piece of paper will land from now on.
- Day 3Open today's mail standing next to the recycling bin, and let the envelopes and inserts go straight in.
- Day 4Find your birth certificate today, or simply jot down where you think it might be.
- Day 5Pick one short slot in your week for a paper session and put it on your calendar like any other plan.
- Day 6Tell yourself kindly that a pile of papers is a normal part of a busy life, not a measure of who you are.
- Day 7Find a basket, tray or shoebox you already own to be the landing place for incoming papers.
Further into the year
The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:
- Day 30Ask someone you live with to take on one paper job, like opening the mail or flattening envelopes for recycling.
- Day 60Make a warm drink on a winter evening and spend ten minutes on the papers that gathered over the holidays.
- Day 120Agree on a simple signal with your partner, like a sticky note on the tray, for papers that need both of you.
- Day 240Celebrate a finished form with something small you enjoy, like a favorite snack or a call to a friend.
- Day 365Look back over the season and name one paper habit that has made things a little easier for you.
How a challenge works
A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.
Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
