Settling Into a New Place
For anyone who has moved recently, or who still does not quite feel at home where they live. Each day is one small way to make your space your own, learn your neighborhood and find your people.
Transitions · Life Transitions · Loneliness · Relationships · one to-do a day · you choose how many days
The first seven days
- Day 1Unpack one box that holds favorite things, even if the practical boxes are still waiting.
- Day 2Walk one street near your new home that you have never been down, and notice one thing you like about it.
- Day 3Introduce yourself to a neighbor you pass outside today, give your first name, and mention that you moved in recently.
- Day 4Call an old neighbor and describe the view from your new window while you talk.
- Day 5Learn the hours of your nearest library branch on weekends, so a rainy Saturday has somewhere to go.
- Day 6Hang one picture in your new place where your eyes land first when you wake up.
- Day 7Seek out the nearest public library to your new place and look up its opening hours.
Further into the year
The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:
- Day 30Go back to the same market stall and say hello like the regular you are becoming.
- Day 60Ask a coworker where locals go for the best version of the dish this area is proud of.
- Day 120Raise a glass of iced tea to your first summer here, wherever you are sitting tonight.
- Day 240Spot which trees bloom first on your block this spring, and look up their names.
- Day 365Thank yourself tonight for every small step that has made this place feel more like yours.
How a challenge works
A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.
Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
