Speaking Up in Groups

For anyone who has something to say in a meeting, class or group conversation and stays quiet. Each day is one small, low-stakes step toward sharing a thought, asking a question, or disagreeing kindly, so your voice gets heard.

The first seven days

  • Day 1Before your next meeting or class, write down one point you would like to make, and keep the note where you can see it.
  • Day 2Pick one group you will be part of this week and name the smallest thing you could say there, like a simple "I agree."
  • Day 3Say one sentence out loud in the first five minutes of a meeting today, even if it is only a hello to the group.
  • Day 4At dinner with family or friends tonight, share one thing you noticed today before anyone asks you.
  • Day 5On a video call today, type one short comment or question in the chat instead of only listening.
  • Day 6Read tomorrow's agenda tonight and jot one question you are curious about next to an item.
  • Day 7Practice one opening line aloud in the car or shower: "One thing I'd add is..." Say it three times at an easy pace.

Further into the year

The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:

  • Day 30Spend two minutes tonight jotting down what you might say at a meeting tomorrow if asked your opinion.
  • Day 60Notice a moment in a group conversation when you wanted to speak but held back, and ask yourself what you would have said.
  • Day 120Speak up when a plan in a group chat does not work for you, and suggest an alternative.
  • Day 240Name a concern about a group plan with a solution attached: "I'm worried about X, so maybe we could try Y."
  • Day 365Choose one small way to keep speaking up in groups after this challenge ends, and write it down.

How a challenge works

A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.

Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
