Thanking People at Work

For anyone who means to say thank you at work and rarely gets around to it. Each day is one small, specific way to notice what coworkers, managers, customers and the people behind the scenes do, and tell them, so work feels a little warmer for everyone.

The first seven days

  • Day 1Pick one coworker who helped you recently and tell them exactly what they did and what it made possible for you.
  • Day 2Write a three-sentence thank-you message to a colleague: what they did, how it helped, and what it meant to you.
  • Day 3Learn the name of one custodian or cleaner where you work, and thank them by name for keeping your space in good shape.
  • Day 4Before you log off, send one short message thanking someone for a specific answer, file or favor they gave you today.
  • Day 5Keep a small note on your phone titled "Who helped this week" and add the first name to it today.
  • Day 6Thank the person who trained you when you started, even if it was years ago, and mention one thing they taught you that you still use.
  • Day 7Tell a coworker who covered a shift or a task for you that you noticed, and name what you were able to do because of it.

Further into the year

The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:

  • Day 30Thank the mailroom or shipping staff for getting something where it needed to go, and say what it was.
  • Day 60Write a thank-you note to a teacher, nurse, aide or support staff member who keeps your workplace running.
  • Day 120Speak up in a group setting to thank a person whose work usually happens out of sight.
  • Day 240Thank a coworker who keeps the shared drive, files or supply room organized so you can find things.
  • Day 365Look back over this challenge and send one last specific thank-you to the person who comes to mind first.

How a challenge works

A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.

Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
