Writing Letters and Little Notes

For anyone who misses the warmth of a handwritten word. Each day is one small way to write a note, card or letter, to the people around you, to faraway friends or to yourself, and let it say what matters.

The first seven days

  • Day 1Tuck a folded note into someone's lunchbox that names one thing you like about how they start their day.
  • Day 2Write a thank-you card for your child's teacher that names one lesson your kid talked about at dinner.
  • Day 3Write a full letter to an old friend by hand, telling them one thing you still remember about the day you met.
  • Day 4Write a short note of encouragement to yourself and tuck it behind a card in your wallet.
  • Day 5Pick a birthday coming up soon and write the card today, adding one memory the two of you share.
  • Day 6Stick a note on the bathroom mirror with one kind line for the next person who brushes their teeth there.
  • Day 7Leave a short note in the mailbox for your mail carrier, thanking them for a delivery they made in bad weather.

Further into the year

The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:

  • Day 30Hand a short welcome note to the new neighbor next door with your name and one favorite spot nearby.
  • Day 60Decorate the back of an envelope with a few doodled leaves or stars before you seal it.
  • Day 120Practice your capital letters on a single line of scrap paper while your coffee cools.
  • Day 240Date and sign the inside of a children's book you are giving, with a line the child can read when older.
  • Day 365Read an old card someone sent you, notice which line still warms you, then write that kind of line in your next one.

How a challenge works

A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.

Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
