Making Music Part of Your Day

For anyone who has let music fade into the background. Each day is one small way to listen, sing, play or move to music on purpose, so it can lift a mood, settle a busy mind or bring people together.

The first seven days

  • Day 1Pick one song you love and listen to it with your eyes closed, start to finish, with nothing else going on.
  • Day 2Make a short wake-up playlist of five songs that feel bright, and play it while you get ready this morning.
  • Day 3Hum a tune you remember from childhood while you wash the dishes, even if you only know half of it.
  • Day 4Choose one instrument in a favorite song, maybe the bass or the drums, and follow only that part all the way through.
  • Day 5Sing in the shower today, loud or soft, on key or off, just for the fun of hearing your own voice.
  • Day 6Find a song from the year you turned sixteen and play it, noticing what memories come along with it.
  • Day 7Clap a simple rhythm on your knees for one minute, then change it once and see where it goes.

Further into the year

The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:

  • Day 30Learn the first line of a simple tune on a keyboard app, a ukulele or a toy xylophone.
  • Day 60Choose one song to mark the end of your workday and play it as you close your laptop or leave.
  • Day 120Wait for the moment in a song where everything drops out and comes back in, and notice how it lands.
  • Day 240Sing while cooking, making up the words you don't remember.
  • Day 365Finish the evening with one song you'd like to carry into tomorrow.

How a challenge works

A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.

Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
