Making Room for Rest

For people who are running on empty and cannot remember the last real break. Each day gives you one small permission to stop, so rest becomes part of the day instead of something you earn.

The first seven days

  • Day 1Take a ten-minute break today with nothing to do, no phone, no task.
  • Day 2Write down what "rest" actually means to you. It might not be sleep.
  • Day 3Sit down for your lunch today and eat it away from your work.
  • Day 4Say no to one optional thing this week and leave that time empty.
  • Day 5Lie down for fifteen minutes this afternoon or evening, eyes closed, no goal.
  • Day 6Go to bed thirty minutes earlier tonight.
  • Day 7Do one thing slowly today that you usually rush through.

Further into the year

The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:

  • Day 30Look back at this challenge and write down the kind of rest that restored you most. Plan it for next week.
  • Day 60Give yourself an unhurried shower tomorrow morning by waking a few minutes earlier or skipping something else.
  • Day 120Write yourself a permission slip for one hour of rest this week, sign it, and keep it in your wallet.
  • Day 240Hang a "resting" sign on your door, real or imaginary, for twenty minutes today.
  • Day 365Plan your next real break, a day or a weekend, and put the first step in motion this week.

How a challenge works

A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.

Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
