Staying Informed Without the Overwhelm
For anyone who feels drained or on edge from the headlines. Each day is one small way to follow the news on your own terms, stay caring and informed, and step back when it gets heavy.
Focus · Stress · Worry · Habits · one to-do a day · you choose how many days
The first seven days
- Day 1Pick two times today to check the news, maybe after breakfast and before dinner, and let the headlines wait in between.
- Day 2Drop your shoulders away from your ears as you scroll the morning headlines.
- Day 3Read one full article today before you let its headline decide how you feel.
- Day 4Text one neighbor after a heavy headline and ask if they need anything from the store this week.
- Day 5Read one hopeful news story today, then sit with how it feels for a minute before you move on.
- Day 6Open your phone's notification settings and turn off breaking news alerts from the one app that pings you most.
- Day 7Unclench your jaw while a news story loads, letting your teeth part slightly.
Further into the year
The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:
- Day 30Pick one evening this week for your household to go news-free, and choose something fun to do together instead.
- Day 60On a cold winter evening, swap the late news for a warm drink and a favorite blanket.
- Day 120Tell a child about the helpers in a hard story: the people who show up and lend a hand.
- Day 240Light a candle at dinner and let the soft glow be the only thing on in the room.
- Day 365Look around your home tonight and name one thing that brings you comfort and stays the same.
How a challenge works
A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.
Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
