Learning Something New
For anyone who misses the feeling of being a beginner, or keeps meaning to pick up a new skill. Each day is one small step toward learning something you are curious about, so your mind gets regular room to grow and play.
Creativity · Goals · Motivation · one to-do a day · you choose how many days
The first seven days
- Day 1Write down three things you have always been curious about learning, then circle the one that makes you smile.
- Day 2Pick one skill to explore for this challenge and say it out loud, so it feels real.
- Day 3Set a timer for ten minutes and spend it on your new skill, then stop when it rings, even mid-task.
- Day 4Let yourself be a beginner on purpose today: try something you will do badly and notice that you are still fine.
- Day 5Ask someone who knows your chosen skill for one tip, and write it down word for word.
- Day 6Visit your local library and borrow one beginner book on the thing you want to learn.
- Day 7Watch one free beginner lesson on your topic, and pause it to try each step yourself.
Further into the year
The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:
- Day 30Learn the name of one tree or plant you pass often, and say its name when you walk by.
- Day 60Read a children's book about your topic, since it often explains the basics clearly.
- Day 120Make a list of three mistakes you made recently and the lesson each one carried.
- Day 240Spend ten minutes copying the work of someone more skilled, just to learn how they did it.
- Day 365Thank your curiosity for leading you here, and choose one thing to wonder about tomorrow.
How a challenge works
A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.
Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
