Making Home Feel Cozy
For anyone whose home feels more like a place to pass through than a place to rest. Each day is one small, low-cost change to light, comfort, sound or color that makes coming home feel warmer.
Home · Self-Care · Stress · one to-do a day · you choose how many days
The first seven days
- Day 1Swap one bright overhead light for a lamp with a warm bulb in the room where you spend your evenings.
- Day 2Open the curtains or blinds as soon as you wake up and let the morning light reach the spot where you drink your coffee.
- Day 3Fold a throw blanket over the arm of the chair or couch you sit in most, so it is within reach tonight.
- Day 4Turn off the ceiling light after dinner and spend the rest of the evening by lamplight alone.
- Day 5Pick one corner of your home, even a single chair by a window, and call it your reading spot for this evening.
- Day 6Look on the box of a lamp bulb you already own and note whether it says warm white, soft white or daylight.
- Day 7Simmer a pot of water with orange peel and a cinnamon stick on the stove while you are home and in the kitchen.
Further into the year
The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:
- Day 30Choose one wall or shelf you see from your bed and put something you like looking at there.
- Day 60Take a cushion from a seat nobody uses and add it to the chair you actually sit in.
- Day 120Use a folding screen, bookcase or tall plant to give your bed a sense of its own nook.
- Day 240Notice where the sun hits your floor in the afternoon and put a cushion there for a short rest.
- Day 365Think back over this challenge so far and choose one small habit, a lamp at dusk, a warm drink, a soft throw, to keep.
How a challenge works
A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.
Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
