Sharing What You Know

For anyone who knows how to do something well, from fixing a bike to baking bread, and would like to pass it on. Each day is one small way to share what you know, teach with patience and enjoy watching someone else learn.

The first seven days

  • Day 1List five things you can do well without looking anything up, from boiling an egg to sorting the mail.
  • Day 2Offer to show a friend how you make your favorite soup, and let them do the stirring while you talk them through it.
  • Day 3Show a new coworker the keyboard shortcut that saves you the most time, and let them try it twice while you watch.
  • Day 4Ask at your local library whether they host a skill swap, and offer to show one simple thing you know how to do.
  • Day 5Slow your pace by half the next time you show someone how to do a thing you know well.
  • Day 6Notice what people have asked you about lately, and jot each question on a scrap of paper.
  • Day 7Sit on the floor with a child and teach them the bunny ears way to tie their shoes, one loop at a time.

Further into the year

The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:

  • Day 30Ask "What do you already know about this?" before you begin explaining anything.
  • Day 60Remember the first time you tried the skill you now know well, and tell your learner one thing you got wrong.
  • Day 120Tell your learner about a time you got stuck on the very same step, so they feel less alone.
  • Day 240Make room for questions by asking "What else are you wondering about?"
  • Day 365Close a lesson by thanking the person for letting you share something you love.

How a challenge works

A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.

Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
