Cheering Other People On

For anyone who wants to be the friend, coworker and neighbor who notices good news and celebrates it. Each day is one small way to cheer someone on, even when their success stings a little.

The first seven days

  • Day 1Text a friend congratulations with one specific detail about what they accomplished, not just a quick "congrats."
  • Day 2Credit a coworker's idea by name the next time it comes up in a meeting, so the room knows where it started.
  • Day 3Notice the small pang when a friend shares good news, and let it pass without telling yourself off for feeling it.
  • Day 4Go to a friend's game this weekend and cheer their name out loud at least once, even if you barely know the rules.
  • Day 5Tell a child one specific thing you noticed about how hard they worked, before you say anything about the result.
  • Day 6Ask your sibling to tell you the whole story of their good news, start to finish, and let them take their time.
  • Day 7Send a short note to a colleague's manager describing one specific thing they did well this season.

Further into the year

The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:

  • Day 30Message a friend whose brave attempt did not work out and tell them what you admired about trying.
  • Day 60Notice the coworker who stayed late to fix a problem and thank them in front of the team.
  • Day 120Look over your birthday list tonight and set a reminder for the next one coming up.
  • Day 240Text a friend on the anniversary of a hard surgery or recovery, saying simply that you are thinking of them.
  • Day 365Ask an older neighbor about something they are proud of finishing this season, and celebrate it with them.

How a challenge works

A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.

Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
