Steadying Yourself Through Change
For anyone going through a move, a new job, a breakup, a new baby, retirement or any big shift. Each day is one small way to find steady ground, keep a few anchors in place, and give yourself time to adjust.
Transitions · Life Transitions · Resilience · one to-do a day · you choose how many days
The first seven days
- Day 1Write one sentence that names the big change you are in right now, plainly, as if telling a kind friend.
- Day 2Pick two or three anchors to keep steady this season, such as a morning coffee, an evening walk or a Sunday call, and write them on a sticky note.
- Day 3Make two short lists side by side: what is changing in your life and what is staying the same.
- Day 4Drink a full glass of water before you check any messages this morning.
- Day 5Take a ten minute walk at the same time you usually would, even if the route is new.
- Day 6List three things you miss about the way life was before this change.
- Day 7List three things you are quietly hoping for on the other side of this change.
Further into the year
The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:
- Day 30Hang up or prop up one picture that makes the space feel a little more like yours.
- Day 60Choose a word for this season of change, such as steady, patient or curious, and write it somewhere you will see it.
- Day 120Write a short list of what you need more of right now, and one of what you need less of.
- Day 240Make a list of practical questions about your new situation and email or call one office to get an answer.
- Day 365Close the day by naming one way you found steady ground today, however small.
How a challenge works
A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.
Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
