Getting Outside Every Day
For anyone whose days pass between four walls and a screen. Each day is one small reason to step outside, in any weather, so fresh air and daylight become a regular part of how you feel.
Wellbeing · Self-Care · Mindfulness · one to-do a day · you choose how many days
The first seven days
- Day 1Step outside for two minutes this morning before you check anything on a screen. Notice the temperature of the air on your face.
- Day 2Find a patch of sky from wherever you are and watch one cloud until it changes shape or drifts out of view.
- Day 3Take your first sip of coffee or tea standing outside your door today, even if it is only for that sip.
- Day 4Walk to the nearest tree and put your palm flat on its bark for ten slow breaths.
- Day 5Eat lunch outside today, on a bench, a step, a curb, or the tailgate of a car, and stay for the whole meal.
- Day 6Stand outside at dusk tonight and watch for the moment the streetlights flicker on.
- Day 7Open your front door, stand on the threshold, and take five deep breaths of outdoor air before you start your day.
Further into the year
The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:
- Day 30Take your evening snack or drink outside and eat it slowly while the light fades.
- Day 60Take five minutes outside between two meetings or tasks today, and let that be the whole point.
- Day 120Take a walk after a summer thunderstorm and notice the steam rising off the pavement.
- Day 240Watch a flag, a windsock, or a plastic bag caught in a tree to see what the wind is doing today.
- Day 365Give thanks to the day out loud or in your head while standing outside at dusk, and go in.
How a challenge works
A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.
Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
