Savoring Small Pleasures

For anyone whose good moments slip by unnoticed in a busy day. Each day is one small invitation to slow down and fully enjoy something ordinary, a taste, a sound, a view or a moment with someone, so pleasure gets room to land.

The first seven days

  • Day 1Before your first sip of a morning drink, pause and take in its warmth and smell, then let that first sip sit on your tongue a moment.
  • Day 2Pick one small pleasure you expect today, like a snack or a walk, and when it arrives, stay with it for ten full seconds longer than usual.
  • Day 3Play a favorite song from start to finish while doing nothing else, and notice the part you love most when it comes.
  • Day 4Run warm water over your hands for a few extra seconds and notice how the warmth spreads through your fingers.
  • Day 5Step into a patch of sunlight today and stand there long enough to feel the heat on your face or arms.
  • Day 6Choose the softest thing you own, a sweater, blanket or scarf, and spend a minute just feeling its texture.
  • Day 7When something makes you laugh today, let the laugh run its full course instead of cutting it short.

Further into the year

The to-dos keep changing as the year goes on. A few from later in this theme:

  • Day 30Share a moment of shared laughter with someone, and afterward say out loud how much you enjoyed it.
  • Day 60Rest your eyes on candlelight or firelight for a few minutes and watch how it flickers.
  • Day 120Enjoy a slow, warm bath or foot soak, and let yourself stay a few minutes longer than usual.
  • Day 240Enjoy a long phone call with someone you have missed, and notice the pleasure of hearing their voice.
  • Day 365Close your day by recalling the single best moment, and let yourself enjoy it one more time before sleep.

How a challenge works

A Theraglee challenge is a theme with one small to-do for every day of a year. You choose how long yours runs, anywhere from a week to the full year, and each day you get the next to-do: something that takes a few minutes and fits inside an ordinary day. Tick it off when it is done. Nothing is scored and nothing is lost if you miss a day; the next to-do is simply waiting when you come back.

Challenges come with a free Theraglee account, which never asks for a card. Your progress stays private to you.
